Over 550,000 youngsters came out to compete in the 11th installment of
Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run. Boys and girls from all 50 U.S.
states and over a dozen different countries participated in the official
youth skills competition of Major League Baseball in 2007. Competition
began at the Local level starting in March and ended with the National
Finals in San Francisco. Boys and girls with exceptional skills in
each market have the chance to compete like pros in a Major League
ballpark. Just over 40,000 competitors advanced from the Local level of
competition to the Sectional level and of those, 480 were all-around
sectional champions who scored high enough to qualify for the Team
Championship level of competition. These youngsters received a shirt,
hat, tickets to a Major League game & the chance to compete where their
favorite pros play ball!
After the Team Championships were completed, the top competitors
nationwide qualified for the ultimate dream-come-true, a trip to the
All-Star Game in San Francisco, CA for the National Finals. In addition
to receiving tickets to All-Star Game events and other items related to
the All-Star festivities, all of these youngsters had the opportunity
to compete on the field just prior to the Home Run Derby.
